Ray first began his baking career around the age of 5, having grown up baking with his mother. Additionally, he grew up working in his grandmother's corner store located on Mesquite Street, best known as the Sunshine Grocery & Grill. Between these two experiences, he learned to bake and the value of hard work. Eventually, these experiences led him to a life-long career as a professional baker.
Dedicated to serving the people of Las Cruces, Ray regularly puts in 16 -hour days to ensure that his customers receive only the best. With great enthusiasm, Ray can proudly say, "We make everything fresh daily!"
Whether your new to the area, are simply visiting, or have been a long-time resident, we welcome you to come on in and check it out! We are here to serve you!
"La Fiesta Bakery" was originally opened in 1988 in Truth or Consequences under the name "C & R Bakery." Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances led to it closing down shortly afterwards in 1989. Eight years later, in 1997, it was reopened on Highway 70 near Moongate Rd. under the name "La Fiesta Bakery." It remained in business until another set of unforeseen circumstances in 1999. Finally, in 2006 it was re-established and relocated to its current location on N. Valley Dr.
Since its reopening, "La Fiesta Bakery" has been the recipient of the "Las Cruces Sun-News Readers Choice Awards Best Bakery and Best Desserts" for the years 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2014. Additionally, it was listed as the "Las Cruces Sun-News Readers Choice Awards Best Bakery" in 2015 and 2016. This is due heavily in part to Ray and Gina's commitment to ensuring that everything is made fresh daily. Accordingly, nothing is ever day-old. At the end of the day, all the remaining products are donated to the El Caldito Soup Kitchen. In 2017, Ray was the recipient of the Mesilla Valley Hospice Foundation's 2017 "Men Who Cook - Best Desert" award.
